I love that quote; it really talks to human environment and how misguided we can be in our efforts to resolve a difficulty. So often with wellbeing issues we are doing what my acupuncturist calls "working too far downstream of the problem," significance we work on trying to rectify the result of the health imbalance rather than what initiated it. For persons who are trying to misplace heaviness this often means examining heaviness as the problem rather than what it actually is, a symptom of a problem.
People are generally overweight because certain thing in their emotional lives is out of balance and it's causing them to use nourishment as a way of management their feelings. Things like unhealed childhood cuts, unmet emotional desires, and unexpressed or stifled strong feelings can origin us to try and stuff those sentiments down with nourishment as a way of managing them. generally this happens when we do not have the information or tools to handle our strong feelings in any other way.
So how do you fix this? Well, the response to that question is a bit harder than "eat more vegetables and stop consuming sugar." While that might help, the real response is to first halt pretending you are eating only when you are hungry. halt endeavoring to tell yourself, "If I could just have more self command then I would be thin." It's not about self-control, it's about self-awareness.
Start by discovering when you are consuming, not out of hunger but out of emotion. Notice when sentiments of unhappiness, boredom or solitude are what's going by car that journey to the cupboard and start finding other ways of management those sentiments, ways that don't involve nourishment. conceive an activity design for when those sentiments arrive over you so that you start to take genuine steps in the direction of settling that underlying topic rather than doing things that will just make you fat.
I suggest both short and long period answers. In the short period things like:
- Going for a short stroll
- Calling a friend
- Spending a few minutes with an inspirational publication
The best choice is to lovingly permitting yourself a couple of minutes to seem your sentiments of unhappiness, loneliness or boredom without judgment and without endeavoring to impel those sentiments aside with food. In a short time they will overtake and you will feel better.
If you have unhealed past traumas, the long-term answer might be to seek the help of a good therapist who can help you bring closure to the ghosts of your past.
The most important thing you can do for yourself is to become more cognizant of the sentiments and emotions that drive you to eat and work on assisting yourself handle those strong feelings in a life-affirming way. When you do that, you really are striking at the origin of your problems.
